What do I do?
I am a Unitarian Universalist minister. I am available to officiate at Weddings and Commitment Ceremonies in Iowa, Minnesota, Virginia and Wisconsin.
What is a Unitarian Universalist Service like?
A Unitarian Universalist (UU for short) service demands that it be thoughtful and unique. I recognize that each persons and each couples spiritual journeys are different and that this should be reflected in the service. The ceremony is uniquely yours, because you pull the elements together. The couple learns more about each other in the process of putting the ceremony together.
However, the ceremony must be intelligible: guests need to know they are at a ceremony in which something special as occurred. This is where I come in.
What do I do?
I help you create the wedding that works for you. I have resources that I can give you, as well as my experience and expertise, to help you form your ceremony.
So how does it work? I like to have three (3) meetings with couples:
- Meeting 1: About 2 months before the ceremony; you tell me your story and tell me what it means for you to get married. You will receive the wedding element folder and begin to put your ceremony together. Approx. 1.5 hours.
- Meeting 2: About 1 month before the ceremony; we discuss the shape the ceremony is taking what readings you want, music, other elements. We will begin some vow-writing exercises that you will take home to continue writing your vows. Approx. 1 hour. Via email and phone calls, I can help you to shape your vows.
- Meeting 3: If there is no rehearsal, this is where we go over the printout of the ceremony and make certain everything is just as you want it. If there is a rehearsal (highly recommended if there are young children participating in the service), this is the rehearsal itself, where we do the same thing only in a rehearsal environment. If no rehearsal, 20 minutes. If there is a rehearsal, then 45 minutes from the time the last required participant arrives.
I also am available for Prepare/Enrich pre-marital counseling. Please contact me for information in regards to availability and fees.
